The Mustang GTD has standard Pre-Collision Assist, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The McLaren GTS doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The Mustang GTD has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Mustang GTD’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Mustang GTD’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Mustang GTD has standard 911 Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Mustang GTD and the McLaren GTS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Ford Mustang GTD weighs 981 pounds more than the McLaren GTS. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang GTD 2 years longer than McLaren covers the GTS. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the McLaren GTS ends after only 3 years.

There are over 109 times as many Ford dealers as there are McLaren dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang GTD’s warranty.

The Mustang GTD has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

The Mustang GTD has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Mustang GTD’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The McLaren GTS does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Mustang GTD’s standard Intelligent Access allow you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Entry and Lock standard on the McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a sensor on the trunk.

The Mustang GTD’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The McLaren GTS’ cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Mustang GTD detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang GTD has standard extendable sun visors. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Mustang GTD’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The McLaren GTS’ visors are fixed into the windshield header.

The Mustang GTD’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The McLaren GTS’ power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the Mustang GTD has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

Standard SYNC for the Mustang GTD allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones so they can stay connected without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.

The Ford Mustang GTD has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. McLaren charges extra for Homelink® on the McLaren GTS.
